Capability development refers to an organisation’s ability to ensure that its employees are adequately equipped to meet the demands of the positions they are functioning in. Ongoing competency development is a priority for every organisation driven largely as a result of adapting to the rate of organisational change and the need for specialised skill deployment.
ASDI has been involved in capability development for a range of organisations functioning in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors of the economy. Capability development is undertaken in collaboration with organisations after having clearly identified their skills development requirements. Our proposed development intervention strategy seeks to create, or complement desired competency in an identified area of need. These needs are often complex and diverse and consequently requires a customised solution design and delivery intervention.
Examples of our organisational capability development interventions:
Public Sector and Local Government. In our collaboration with Ramafin, capability development courses have been delivered to public sector and local government agencies in Australia. Core development objectives are to broaden the depth of skills that currently exist in local councils and government agencies. Key skills targeted for the public sector development include contracting and procurement, asset management, business case development and business case review. These workshop interventions are hands-on, ensuring participants come away with transferable knowledge and tools that are readily usable in their workplaces.
Leadership and Governance for Board Members and Officers. Understanding governance and leadership requirements when acting as a Board member in private, public, and non-for-profit entities. Creating a clear understanding of the regulatory requirements regarding the roles, responsibilities, and accountability of Board members/Directors and Executive Officers.
Financial Management in Oil & Gas. Specialised, in-house course design and delivery to develop a range of key competencies of more than 800 Shell Finance staff operating within project roles in the Oil and Gas industry since 2007. The workshop spans 5 days and critically evaluates the roles and contribution of middle and senior managers in governance, risk management, cost estimation, contracting and procurement, and project reporting in large project environments. Workshops have been delivered in the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Middle-East, Russia, and South-East Asia.
Project Management Essentials. Project Management Workshops for project teams involved in implementing projects. These development workshops step through project principles: project objectives, project planning, risk management and the various drivers throughout the project lifecycle. The workshops are practical, and consider barriers to successful project execution and instituting effective project controls to address these impediments to delivering successful projects.
Teacher Development Workshops. Developing customised train-the-trainer workshops for clients in Australia and overseas in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the tertiary education system. One such capability development intervention was partnering with OVEC (Thailand’s Ministry of Education’s Office for Vocational Education and Training) to deliver teacher development workshops to a host of public sector educational institutions in Bangkok, Thailand.
Management Strategies for Middle-Leaders in Schools. Capability development for middle-leaders (Heads of Department) of independent preparatory and secondary schools in the United Kingdom to improve teaching and learning. Development sessions focus on 21st Century Teaching and Learning and the importance of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and problem solving in equipping students with the skills of tomorrow.
